How to protect your hair during the Summer?

How to protect your hair during the Summer?

20 May 2021

The arrival of summer and the consequent increase in temperature are factors that invite us to enjoy the benefits of the sun and the heat. Although sun protection is something that must be adopted during all seasons of the year, the truth is that during the bathing season there is a greater concern in this regard. It ends up translating into a substantial increase in the demand for sunscreens, as well as products to be used before and after sun exposure. Protecting the face and body from solar radiation is usually the main focus of the population and also the area in which most commercial brands present a greater diversity of products. For this reason, today I decided to counter this trend, directing this article to the care that we must take in order to guarantee adequate protection of our hair. For this purpose, I selected some products that will make all the difference for those who want to keep their scalp protected and their hair strong, nourished, and healthy throughout the year.

Exposure of the scalp and hair to aggressive agents, such as ultraviolet rays, wind, sand, chlorine, and salt, lead to color changes, loss of shine, and dehydration of the hair strands. It also leads to the appearance of split ends and, in more severe cases, scalp burns. The photolysis of some amino acids, which occurs due to their absorption of ultraviolet radiation, is another damage that can, for example, contribute to accelerating the hair loss process. When it occurs at the level of the hair shaft, the photodegradation of proteins is even responsible for the reduction of hair resistance, for a greater fragility of the hair strands, and for a change in its texture, giving them a rougher appearance and a more clear tone. As such, it is on these concerns that the importance of using accessories such as hats and carrying out a care routine before, during, and after sun exposure is based.

The care that precedes exposure to the sun is, as a rule of thumb, the same that should be used in any capillary schedule that aims at hydration, nutrition, and hair reconstruction. As such, options such as the Huile des Rêves by Lazartigue and the Rescue Hair Oil from APIVITA can be part of this routine. The first because of its vegan formulation and its composition, rich in botanical oils (oils of argan, peach, camellia, and geranium from Egypt), is ideal for nourishing and fortifying hair in-depth and for regenerating the hair fiber. The second because, thanks to the oils of argan, olive, almond, sunflower, oats, beeswax, and essential oils, repairs damaged hair, prevents the formation of split ends, and also protects the hair from any thermal procedures.

Even so, although these are excellent complements to daily hair care, it is essential that the protection of the scalp and hair is not neglected when exposed to the sun. Thus, it is imperative that, during this phase, products with UVA and UVB filters are additionally applied, in order to preserve the hydrolipidic film of the hair and to ensure its protection against the factors that usually attack it. René Furterer is a brand that presents two formulations for this purpose. Presented in the form of fluid or oil, both are waterproof and consist of sunscreens and sesame extract. The latter, an active ingredient rich in fatty acids, minerals, and vitamin E, contributes particularly to prevent capillary dehydration. On the other hand, Klorane also has a range inspired exclusively by hair exposed to the sun, whose main natural active ingredient is obtained through the flower of the Ylang-Ylang tree. Consisting of three products, this ecologically designed line has an oil with a multi protective effect, a shampoo, and a conditioner. Suitable for natural, dyed, or streaked hair, these products guarantee the protection of hair exposed to the sun and its subsequent repair and nutrition. The shampoo provides a delicate cleansing, eliminating the residues of salt, sand, or chlorine and leaving the hair soft, flexible, and shiny. In turn, the conditioner detangles and moisturizes the hair strands, leaving them light and nourished, due to the presence of components such as vegetable keratin.

So, addressing each of the steps that will allow you to enjoy the summer with beautiful and healthy hair, I can only encourage you to try our products and take care of yourself and your hair and scalp. Spray sunscreens on dry or damp hair before exposure to the sun and renew the application whenever necessary. Adopt an adequate cleaning and hydration routine and complement it with specific care for the needs of your hair type. And, most important of all, have fun in safety!

See you soon!
